The MGB, pure British motoring at its finest, and you won’t find better ‘value for money’. What a delightful classic!

Truly is a joy to drive, this quintessential British roadster. A rigid rear axle, a comfortable seating position behind the sporty steering wheel, and a wonderfully compact body. It’s this last feature that makes it such a nippy driver’s car, one you can easily take for a quick jaunt to the shops or a visit to family. In this regard, it’s quite different from the larger Jaguar XK, E-Type, or XJS. The optional but also essential overdrive on third and fourth gears also adds to the MGB’s comfort on the motorway; by the time you leave the slip road, you’ll be doing 120 km/h in no time, all while maintaining an acceptable engine speed and a fitting level of noise.

However, for those ‘spur-of-the-moment’ drives, reliability is key, and this charming MG delivers in that department too. The car has been well-maintained, and everything is up to date. For instance, the nearly entirely renewed braking system immediately catches the eye, with new brake discs at the front and all the brake lines replaced. Another highlight is the ideal stiffness of the leaf springs at the rear and the shock absorbers at the front. These have been recently replaced, which certainly benefits the car’s handling. Starting the engine is smooth, and setting off with a cold engine is effortless, with no stuttering or hesitation. It’s simply a delightful classic, completely ready for the beautiful summer ahead.

Pure enjoyment! The roof down, the beautiful wooden Momo steering wheel in your hands, heading into the sun. The sporty hum of the 1800cc four-cylinder engine emanates from the exhaust. Speaking of the ‘roof’: the convertible top looks remarkably good and neat. There are no signs of damage, and the PVC windows are clear and smooth. The process of folding and unfolding is quick and seamless, and within a few minutes, the roof is neatly stowed away and covered with the provided cover.

And then there’s the charm! For me, these are the most delightful classics; in original condition, wonderfully vintage in appearance. A tiny scratch here, a little dent there; you can simply tell that this car has been enjoyed, and that’s precisely what they’re for—enjoying life.

This is an original Dutch-delivered MG B, a rarity, which makes it all the more special. Even the owner’s manual is still with the car—how unique! Thanks to its exceptionally low mileage, both the bodywork and the undercarriage are in excellent condition. Both footwells are solid, as is the firewall. Of course, signs of time’s passage are visible, and that’s only natural. What matters is that the sills, firewall, and floor pan show no advanced rust. These areas are in particularly good shape on this MG, so keep an eye out for this when inspecting other classics!

The purchase invoice, service invoices, and the original manual are all present with the MG. The key set consists of one original ignition key and two keys for the doors and boot.

In the Netherlands, the MG is exempt from road tax. An old-timer insurance policy costs only between 20 to 40 euros per month. Annual maintenance costs are estimated at around 300 to 400 euros. An MGB doesn’t depreciate—it becomes a little more valuable each year, as proven over the last 10 years.

Now for the question: Can you give me one good reason not to enjoy this MGB this coming summer? Let me know. And if you can’t think of one, give me a call and come have a cup of coffee.

There’s so much more to say about this special classic, but you’ll only truly get a feel for it once you’ve seen and driven the car. You’re most welcome in Uden; the coffee’s ready.
