The XJ40, perhaps Jaguar’s most discussed design. Has now become rare.
Love it or hate it, that’s how it goes with the XJ40. Fortunately, because they are becoming scarce. A large audience just pushes the price up, right? They are scarce, especially in this condition and version. Because specially colored in Jade Green. A fresh interior, with minimal signs of use. But more importantly; an apparently ‘hard’ bulkhead, hard sheet metal and hard bottom plate. Is that still possible? Yes, you can, as long as the owner treats and has treated the XJ40 with love.
This Sovereign in the beautiful color Jade Green just has it; An interior and exterior in top condition, a chassis in good condition, everything exudes originality. No parking dents, no retrofitted equipment, no frills. It does have an original and perfectly working radio, a cooling air conditioning, fully working interior lighting, free of defects.
That says something about the way this Jaguar has been driven in recent years, cherished in this case. Definitely worth the investment, there’s no doubt about it.
The XJ 4.0 Sovereign was originally delivered new in the Netherlands, by Cito Jaguar in Eindhoven. In total there are three known owners.
The interior is made of beautiful Parchment leather, leather that is still in very good condition. Beautiful but above all very unique. Of course you will find burr walnut in abundance. Wood that normally loses its deep color and shine, due to the influence of UV light. Not with this XJ40, the woodwork looks beautiful.
Sovereign, The most complete version in the Jaguar line. Electric seat control, air conditioning, cruise control, on-board computer, all these things are present. The exterior also distinguishes itself from the XJ6 by more chrome and different rims, for example.
All right, how does this XJ drive? Regardless of the appearance of a Jaguar or Daimler, this always remains a surprise, in this case positive. The automatic transmission shifts smoothly, the suspension feels solid. A ‘singing’ differential is a known ailment of the XJ40 Jaguars and Daimlers. The differential of this Jaguar is of course very quiet, inaudible.
There is no visible rust under the rear window. Four fender edges are free of rust, the sills are original and hard. Only some minimal damage and a small point of visible rust on a sill on the front right betray its age.
The chrome on both bumpers, which is becoming scarce these days, is also in top condition. Headlamps are free of cracks, as are all indicators and other light units.
It goes without saying that an XJ40 in this condition is a good investment.
The Sovereign will be delivered with a brand new MOT, valid until December 2022. The service folder is of course present, complete with a fully completed maintenance booklet. The Jaguar has been perfectly maintained, no service has been skipped.
There is still a lot to say about this XJ, but of course you only get a good picture when you look at the car and drive it. you are most welcome in Oirschot, coffee is ready.
