Daimler. Double Six. Original Dutch. Dorchester Grey paintwork, Doeskin leather; a fantastic combination!

A good Series 3 Jaguar, let alone a Daimler, is hard to find these days. The excellent condition is immediately noticeable—you can see it at a glance. Beautiful bodywork, gleaming paint, and the chassis appears to be sitting correctly. It may sound exaggerated, but take a close look, and you’ll see it too.

What a delightful sight this 5.3 V12 in Dorchester Grey is, sitting on the original ‘Pepperpot’ wheels.

It’s clear that the Double Six has been well-maintained and carefully looked after. Everything is just as it should be, supported by numerous invoices. The Doeskin leather upholstery is in particularly good condition. The air conditioning cools perfectly, and the 5.3 V12 runs smoothly and beautifully. This is exactly how we like to see it. By the way, the air conditioning has already been modified and is now filled with the more modern R134a gas, a big plus since the older gas is no longer available. Another plus: the gearbox is already overhauled in history, of course working perfectly at the moment.

Perhaps even more important is the condition of the Series 3 when looking at the underbody and chassis. The suspension looks neat and well-maintained, and no rust or bad spots are visible on the floor pans. Everything is up to date, and no defects are noticeable. What stands out too are the rear mufflers; from the connections just before the rear axle, the system is made of stainless steel, meaning it has already been replaced in the past.

Don’t be mistaken—these are true classics, vintage cars. A car nearly 40 years old in this condition is not a given. While perhaps every Series 3 XJ might look good in a photo, the differences are huge.

These differences are made by the driver and their choice of mechanic. A specialist knows the weak points of the classic and addresses them perfectly. This is also the case with this Daimler; it has previously been under the care of the renowned specialist Jagpoint, amongst others. Take a look at the engine bay, and you’ll immediately see the expertise.

Additionally, major maintenance was performed this week, including the preventive replacement of the fuel lines on top of the engine block, as well as the idle control valve. The headliner has been renovated in the past, and the result is very good!

You wouldn’t just part with a Daimler like this, I hear you thinking. The previous owner shared that sentiment, but upon seeing our Daimler Double Six VandenPlas, he had to make room in his garage, so this Daimler was traded in.

Well, surely there must be something to mention? Of course, there are a few small things to note. Currently, the cruise control is not working, and there is some rust visible under the paint on the front and rear windows. The left rear fender has a small imperfection, and the center armrest has some damage. After 30 years, these minor issues are the only things that remain, leaving you with pure enjoyment!

There is much more to say about this Daimler, but you’ll only get a true sense of it when you see and drive the car. You are most welcome in Uden; coffee is ready.
