The XJ Series 1; a good example has rarely become one, let alone one of the regular ones.
There is no doubt about a Series 1 XJ; this is just beautiful! The large plastic bumpers on a Series 3, the black taillights on a later XJS, these are things that are sometimes questioned about these types. However, opinions are not divided about the actual XJ S1, and that is not surprising!
Just take a look at the design of the rear lights, or in fact the entire rear? Have you ever seen something beautiful like this? We are talking about a large sedan, but the sleek elegance radiates from it. To a large extent also due to the capacity and chromed bumpers; you didn’t see that on later years. The large rear window, also unique. And those exhausts; It is not logical that they turned outwards after leaving the stern. Not logical, but oh so beautiful. Well, I could go on and on, but let’s even get to the condition of the Jaguar, which is just as important.
This is an original Jaguar from the first XJ series. The beautiful chrome frame of the clocks and counters in the dashboard together with the door sills without ‘Jaguar’ mention show that it is really one of the first ones.
An original interior, with beautifully aged woodwork. The interior is complete. The leather is original and in beautiful condition, although there are cracks and dry spots. The headliner is original but loose. Odometer and tachometer work, also the lightning in those gauges does. The lighting in the other meters does not work, nor does the clock. It is a complete and original looking example. Doors fit neatly, the lines are correct. But the most important thing when it comes to classics of this age; an apparently ‘hard’ bulkhead, hard sheet metal and hard bottom plate. Special, for a classic from 1969!
Although the sheet metal is generally in good condition, the paintwork is in somewhat less condition. The paint is not original, although the Jaguar looks nice.
Trunk? Neat, the bottom is not rusty. Sills may be black in color, but have already been repaired and are therefore in relatively good condition. Truly a car from and for an enthusiast, you can see that in everything.
Then the technology. The automatic gearbox shifts smoothly and without fail. The chassis feels well maintained, no strange play is noticeable and no strange noises can be heard. The engine block runs well. Starting is smooth and fast. Not surprising, because he entire cylinder head has already been renovated in recent history. The complete exhaust has been replaced by a stainless steel one and is therefore airtight.
The good technical condition of this Series 1 invited the remaining technical points to be put in order. For example, the suspension was improved on our behalf and maintenance was carried out and although the XJ is no longer subject to an MOT, it will still be inspected before delivery to the new enthusiast, just because it is possible!
You want this pure history on wheels. That is also the reason that the previous owner, a true enthusiast, owned the Jaguar for almost 20 years. The S1 had it’s first registration in Austria, the previous owner arranged the Dutch registration himself. Driving the S1 is pure pleasure. The Saloon is quiet, comfortable, relaxing. The day after arrival I immediately took a test drive, which each time became a little longer. Unfortunately I can’t keep all the classics, because a Series 1 XJ should not be missing.
There is still a lot to say about this Jaguar, but you will of course only get a good impression when you view and drive the car. you are very welcome in Oirschot, the coffee is ready.
