To me it is clear; The X351 Supersport is the ultimate XJ for everyday use. The best of all worlds, housed in a body with pure Jaguar DNA.
The quality is unprecedentedly high, just look and feel that interior. Beautiful leather everywhere you look, in three variations. The seats have beautiful semi-analine leather in Jet black, the stitching in Ivory. the seat and back surface are perforated because there is automatic ventilation. And then the headliner, where you will also find beautiful leather, coloured jet black.
Details complete an interior. just take a look at the ventilation grilles, in chrome. A recognizable design, after all, the very first XJ also had ventilation grilles in similar styling. Another detail is the beautifully executed clock, prominently located in the center of the dashboard. Stylishly illuminated in the evenings, just like many other parts of the interior.
Quality, that’s what we talked about. 20 speakers, 1200W, Bowers & Wilkins. The ultimate sound system, communicating perfectly with your phone. Pure pleasure, especially when covering long distances.
And then the driving. Unprecedented, what power the 5.0 V8 produces. The supercharger, among other things, provides a power increase of no less than 125 HP compared to the ‘non-aspirated’ 5.0 V8. 510 HP, 625Nm; they’re just numbers. Get behind the wheel of the XJL, switch on ‘Dynamic Mode’ and these numbers change into pure experience.
Counters light up red, seat belts press you into your seat, ready for action. I can already hear you thinking; modern and digital, that’s not for me. But take it from me, the Supersport doesn’t feel digital, far from it.
The 5.0 V8 certainly contributes to this, but just as important is the steering, the seating position, and the feeling behind the wheel. The steering is extremely tight, as in a light sports car. Your driving position is optimal. Behind the front seats it seems to stop quickly, nowhere is the enormous length of the sporty sedan noticeable.
The X351 is the crowning achievement of Jaguars’ XJ lifespan. More Grace, Space and Pace than ever before, if you still like to use that mantra. The XJL is better than its predecessors, better than its competition.
Are there any negatives, you wonder? Few. However, I like to mention everything that strikes me, so that you are not faced with any surprises during a viewing. The rims have some curb damage, for example. Furthermore, the panoramic roof works fine, but if you use it frequently it will make some creaks while driving. Every XJ from this series faces that point, but it’s worth mentioning. It is important that the roof is leak-free.
The XJL comes from the first owner. This elderly gentleman drove the Jaguar on Belgian registration for a while, after which it was registered with a Dutch license plate, a very common situation.
It is good to know that we had major maintenance carried out last week. Two new 20 inch Pirelli rear tires have also been fitted and the Jaguar has been extensively cleaned and detailed. There are currently no points of interest.
It is not even necessary to mention the countless options and useful functions, you only mention those when describing cars that have little else to talk about. Then that automatic high beam suddenly becomes interesting. Here we prefer to talk about V8s, experience and pure driving pleasure.
